The late summer months are a quiet time for birdsong but a good time to start learning bird calls. In September we will be able to hear communication calls from tits, finches thrushes, great spotted woodpecker, nuthatch, treecreeper and goldcrest. With luck we may also be able to see house martins gathering before their migration. Price £15 per person including 2 hours guided birdwatching, close-up views through a high powered telescope, a bird list and refreshments. Transport No transport for this session. We will meet at 08:50am in the main Golden Acre Park car park on Otley Road (A660). What to expect Easy walking on made up paths. Be prepared for muddy ground. There are 2 hides at Adel Dam and cafe and toilets at Golden Acre Park. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls. Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear September can be a tricky month to assess in terms of temperature. Bring plenty of layers and waterproof outer clothing including over-trousers and sturdy boots. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation.
