Bird song walk – Adel Dam

The autumn months are a good time to start learning bird song. In September we begin with robin in wren and our visit to Adel Dam and Golden Acre will focus mainly on these species. You’ll learn why birds sing and why these two species in particular can be heard at this time. Price £15 per person including refreshments. Transport No transport for this session. We will meet at 8:50am in the main Golden Acre Park car park on Otley Road (A660). What to expect Easy walking on made up paths. Be prepared for muddy ground. There are 2 hides at Adel Dam and cafe and toilets at Golden Acre Park. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear September can be a tricky month to assess in terms of temperature. Bring plenty of layers and waterproof outer clothing including over-trousers and sturdy boots. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Scarf, gloves and hat may be needed and it’s a good idea to carry spare socks and gloves.
