Spend a full day exploring the lesser known sites in the Dearne Valley, finishing at RSPB Old Moor. We’ll check the lagoons, woodland and hedgerows for birds breeding birds such as ringed plover, little ringed plover, lapwing, avocet, garganey, chiffchaff, willow warbler and blackcap. Brush up on your birdsong too. Price £65 per person including guided birdwatching, up-close views of birds through a telescope, a list of birds and refreshments at the end of the walk… Transport available My minibus will set off at 08:00 from the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds ring road. Contact me to arrange transport to the venue. What to expect Easy walking on flat ground but paths can be muddy in places. Hides and toilets are available at RSPB Old Moor. Start and end times are at the venue. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear Bring layers in case of bad weather and waterproof outer clothing including coat, over-trousers and sturdy waterproof boots. No jeans please as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a scarf and gloves for bad weather as well as water, sunscreen and insect repellent. Join me on more trips and learn about each bird’s story whether it migrates or stays in the UK the time of year when it can be seen the types of habitats preferred by different species how birds adapt to their environment.
