Listen and learn birdsong at this little known nature area close to Golden Acre Park. Eccup Whin offers a fantastic mixture of woodland and scrub adjacent to farmland. Birds such as yellowhammer, reed bunting, willow tit, treecreeper, nuthatch and great spotted woodpecker will be singing as well as newly arrived warblers chiffchaff and blackcap. Price: £15 per person including guided birdwatching, up-close views of birds through a telescope, a list of birds and refreshments at the end of the walk.. Transport Transport is available by arrangement from the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds outer ring road from 08:30. What to expect Flat, uneven ground with boggy areas. Only ‘natural’ facilities in the woodland but there are toilets in nearby Golden Acre Park. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request.
