This long established Leeds nature reserve has been producing some fantastic birds recently with bittern, peregrine and spoonbill on view regularly. On this trip we’ll be looking for birds, wildflowers, butterflies and dragonflies and exploring some little known areas of the reserve. Price: £25 per person Transport Transport is available leaving the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds outer ring road at 08:00. What to expect Easy walking on made up paths. Be prepared for muddy ground. There is one hide at the Lin Dyke end of the Fairburn reserve and toilets are available at the nearby visitor centre. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear Bring plenty of layers and waterproof clothing in case of bad weather. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. There will be insects so please bring insect repellent and you may also need sun screen.
