Join me for (optional) breakfast before an early spring walk at RSPB Fairburn Ings reserve. This time we’ll be exploring the paths and lagoons around the Lin Dyke area looking for newly arrived chiffchaffs, wandering tit flocks and the last of the winter wildfowl. We’ll be looking for signs of spring around us and learning bird song. Price £15 per person including refreshments at the end. Transport Transport is available leaving at 08:00 from the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds outer ring road. What to expect Easy walking on made up paths. Be prepared for muddy ground. There is one hide at this end of the Fairburn reserve. Toilets are available at the nearby visitor centre, but there are plenty of ‘natural’ facilities. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear The trick to managing your temperature at this time of year is to wear thin layers and bring plenty of extra clothing with you. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring waterproof clothing,  waterproof boots, gloves, hat and scarf.
