We’ll look for this year’s fledgling spoonbills, eclipsed ducks, migrating waders and practise identification of swallows and martins before they leave for Africa. Price £15 per person including refreshments. Transport Transport is available leaving at 18:00 from the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds outer ring road. What to expect Easy walking on made up paths. Be prepared for muddy ground. There is one hide at this end of the Fairburn reserve. The visitor centre is closed so no toilets available, but there are plenty of ‘natural’ facilities. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear late-summer evenings can be chilly so bring plenty of layers and waterproof clothing. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. There will be insects so please bring insect repellent and you may also need sun screen.
