This is my first late-summer visit to Fewston Reservoir in the Washburn Valley. On this 4 hour circular walk, we’ll explore the woodland, farmland and water for migrating birds. We’ll look for arriving water birds such as teal, fledgling waders on the farmland and passerines such as juvenile warblers, siskin, redpoll, coal tit and goldcrest. Price £30 per person including guided birdwatching and refreshments (packed lunch required) Transport available Meet me at 8am the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds ring road if you’d like transport to the venue. What to expect Easy walking for most of the way on flat ground but there are some hills and paths will be muddy in places. There are no hides but toilets are available at the car park. Refreshments will be provided at the end of the walk. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear Bring plenty of layers and waterproof outer clothing including coat, over-trousers and sturdy waterproof boots. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a scarf, gloves and a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and plenty of water.
