This lovely circular walk, with added birds, wildflowers and butterflies takes us through the woodland and farmland of the Harewood Estate. We start from Wike Lane, cross the A61 onto the Estate and walk towards the Harewood Arms before heading east through fields and hedgerows. Red kite, linnet, yellowhammer, skylark, swallow, shelduck, kestrel and buzzard will be our target birds along the way. Price £25 per person including refreshments at the end of the walk (bring extra food). Transport available Meet at 08:45 at the junction of Wike Lane and the A61. Contact me if you require transport. What to expect Easy walking on flat ground with a slight hill. Paths will be muddy in places. There are plenty of ‘natural’ toilet opportunities. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls. Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear Depending on the weather you may need to wear base layers (thermal vests and leggings), fleeces and walking trousers. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a waterproof coat, over-trousers and sturdy, waterproof boots. Also bring scarf, gloves, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and plenty of water. Join me on more trips and learn about each bird’s story whether it migrates or stays in the UK the time of year when it can be seen the types of habitats preferred by different species how birds adapt to their environment.
