Take a lovely evening walk around Hawksworth Wood in Horsforth this spring. We’ll look for nuthatch, great spotted woodpecker, treecreeper and sparrowhawk in the woodland and kingfisher and dipper on the stream Price £15 per person including refreshments. Transport No transport available for this trip. Park on Hawksworth Road and meet at the entrance to the wood at the bottom of Butcher Hill What to expect Easy walking on flat ground but be prepared for mud. There are no hides and no facilities apart from ‘natural’ toilets. Refreshments are provided at the end of the walk. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear Spring evenings can be very cool so bring plenty of layers and ensure you’re waterproof. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a waterproof coat, over-trousers and sturdy, waterproof boots. Scarf, gloves and hat are essential and it’s a good idea to carry sunscreen and insect repellent.
