The Meanwood Valley will be full of the sounds of bird songs and calls in the lovely month of June. Look and listen for stock dove, nuthatch, treecreeper, great spotted woodpecker, goldcrest, grey wagtail, kingfisher and dipper along the way. Price £15 per person including a 2 hour guided session, close-up views through a high powered telescope, a bird list and free refreshments. Transport No transport available for this trip – meet at the car park on Green Road, Meanwood. What to expect Some uneven ground and muddy paths. There are toilets and a cafe at nearby Waitrose but only ‘natural’ facilities in the woodlands Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear Bring plenty of layers in case of chilly weather. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a waterproof coat, over-trousers and sturdy, waterproof boots. Scarf, gloves and hat are essential and you also may need sun screen and insect repellent.
