On this year’s visit to the stunning bluebell woods of Middleton in Ilkley, I’ll be joined by wildlife photographer and photography teacher, Paul Miguel for a bluebell and birdsong spectacular. We’ll start by checking out the River Wharfe for grey wagtail, dipper, kingfisher, sand martins and common sandpiper before heading into the woodland to identify birds by their songs. As we weave our way through the magnificent bluebell woods, Paul will be on hand to help you capture stunning views on camera. You’ll learn how to create thoughtfully composed woodland scenes carpeted with bluebells and how to produce striking, colourful close ups. Zoom lenses are ideal. Any questions on camera settings are welcome. Birdwatchers and photographers welcome Price £35 per person including refreshments. Transport Transport is available by arrangement from the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds outer ring road from 08:00. What to expect Hills, mud and uneven ground. Only ‘natural’ facilities in the woodland but there are toilets in nearby Ilkley town centre. Note for beginners Birdwatchers: If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. Photographers: Learn photography basics, how to create thoughtfully composed woodland scenes carpeted with bluebells and how to produce striking, colourful close ups. What to wear Bring plenty of layers in case of cold weather. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a waterproof coat, over-trousers and sturdy, waterproof boots. You may also need a scarf, gloves, hat, sun screen and insect repellent.
