This full day wetland spectacular takes us to two of the best reserves in the Goole area, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s North Cave Wetlands and RSPB Blacktoft Sands. We’ll explore the lagoons, scrub, ridge and furrow and surrounding farmland at both reserves and listen out for singing corn bunting, sedge, reed and Cetti’s warbler. WIth luck we’ll see avocet, spotted redshank, little ringed plover, common sandpiper, bittern and bearded tit. All this and the opportunity for a bacon sandwich from Wild Bird Cafe at the start. Transport available Meet me at 08:00 at the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds outer ring road if you’d like transport to the venue. What to expect Easy walking on flat ground but paths will be muddy in places. Hides and toilets on both reserves. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear You may need to wear base layers (thermal vests and leggings) depending on the weather. Bring a fleece and walking trousers. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a waterproof coat, over-trousers and sturdy, waterproof boots, scarf, gloves, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and plenty of water.
