Northumberland Tour Our 3 day late spring tour explores the beautiful Northumberland coastline with spectacular views of ancient castles, sandy beaches and rocky islands. You’ll visit some of the best birdwatching sites in the area including Druridge Bay and Lindisfarne and take a boat trip from Seahouses to Inner Farne to see grey seal, puffin, guillemot, shag, razorbill and eider. Learn how to identify the nesting tern species (Sandwich tern, Arctic tern, common tern, little tern and possibly roseate tern) and catch glimpses of feeding parties of gannet from nearby Bass Rock. What to expect Relatively easy walking on flat ground but paths will be muddy in places. There are some hides but most sites have no facilities so we will factor in toilet stops during the day. We’ll aim to take our boat trip on the first day which will allow us to reschedule if the weather prevents sailing. Breakfast will be at 8am and birdwatching will take place from 9:30am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear/bring This is a late spring trip but the weather can be cold and wet so bring plenty of extra clothing, waterproof coat, over-trousers and boots. No jeans please. You’ll need a warm hat (and a sun hat), scarf and gloves, sun screen and insect repellent. You’ll also need a packed lunch for the first day.
