Join me for a visit to the popular North Yorkshire reserves, Nosterfield Nature Reserve and Nosterfield Quarry and explore some new places to watch birds in the area. Watch birds in comfort from hides with sheepskin lined benches and take a walk around the adjoining farmland, wetland and reedbed habitat. This could be your lucky day for finding bittern, little owl and otter. Price £55 per person including refreshments (packed lunch required) Transport available Meet me outside Argos at 8:00 at the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds ring road if you’d like transport to the venue. What to expect Easy walking on flat ground but paths will be muddy in places. There are luxurious hides at the nature reserve but no hides at the quarry. Toilets are available at the education centre at the quarry. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear The trick to maintaining the right body temperature in early spring is by bringing plenty of layers and ensuring you’re waterproof. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a waterproof coat, over-trousers and sturdy, waterproof boots. Scarf, gloves, hat and sunscreen may be needed and it’s a good idea to carry spare gloves.
