Late March is a wonderful time to listen to our resident birds singing to announce their territory. At this time of year, all our residents are singing and we may also be able to hear one of our first spring migrants, the chiffchaff. We’ll explore the farmland and woodland for yellowhammer, great spotted woodpecker, nuthatch and treecreeper. Otters are also seen in the area. Price £15 per person including refreshments. Transport Meet at 08:00 outside Argos/Habitat at the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds outer ring road. What to expect Relatively easy walking on made up paths. Be prepared for muddy ground. There is a hill and steps to the reserve. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear Wear plenty of layers and waterproof outer clothing including over-trousers and sturdy boots. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Scarf, gloves and hat will be needed and it’s a good idea to carry spare socks and gloves.
