A full day of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust reserves! It’s been a while since Start Birding visited Paull Holme Strays on the River Humber. This inter-tidal reserve was initially created as part of a flood risk management scheme. We’ll spend a half day looking for waders, wildfowl, butterflies, dragonflies and wildflowers on the 45 hectares of mudflats and 35 hectares of saltmarsh. The second part of the day will be spent at North Cave Wetlands looking for birds on the lagoons and in the hedgerows. Price £55 including refreshments. Transport available Meet me at 08:00 at the Moor Allerton Centre on the Leeds outer ring road. What to expect Mostly easy walking on flat ground following the well made footpaths. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls. Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase.
