Bird songs and calls are the subject of this Wednesday morning session as we walk around this award winning reserve. We’ll also focus on identifying wildfowl on the lagoons and looking for wader species such as common snipe. With luck we’ll see little owl too. Price £15 per person Transport For this trip we meet at the nature reserve visitor centre at 09:00. What to expect The reserve is on flat ground but paths could be muddy in places. Cafe and toilets are available at the reserve. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls. Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the class as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear Wear plenty of layers to keep out the chill including thermal base layers. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a waterproof coat, over-trousers and sturdy, waterproof boots, scarf, gloves and a hat. It’s advisable to bring spare gloves and socks.
