Another special private visit to one of our favourite places. We’ll have Rodley Nature Reserve to ourselves again on what I hope will be a lovely spring evening. We’ll be focusing on resident and migrant bird song (Cetti’s warbler, grasshopper warbler, garden warbler, common and lesser whitethroat) and looking for kingfisher, sand martin, swallow, oystercatcher and water rail on the lagoons. We’ll also be keeping our fingers crossed for barn owl and little owl. Price £15 per person including refreshments. Transport No transport available on this trip. Meet at the reserve car park at 18:50 What to expect Some uneven ground and muddy paths but most of the paths are easy going. There are toilets at the visitor centre. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear Spring evenings can be cold. Bring plenty of layers with you. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a waterproof coat, over-trousers and sturdy, waterproof boots. Scarf, gloves, hat and you also may need sun screen and insect repellent.
