The last birdwatching session of 2018 will be a Christmas get-together at the very special, award winning Rodley Nature Reserve. Here we’ll check out the lagoons and surrounding woodland and hedgerows for kingfisher, water rail and over-wintering birds before ending the morning with Christmas snacks and hot drinks. Bring your Christmas jumper or hat. Price £15 per person including refreshments. Transport For this trip we meet at the nature reserve but contact linda@startbirding.co.uk to discuss transport options. What to expect Easy walking on flat ground. Paths could be muddy in places. Facilities are available at the reserve. Note for beginners If you’re struggling to see birds through your binoculars, you’ll learn quickly how to use them with speed and accuracy and discover some useful techniques for watching birds in the field. You’ll also learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.Please don’t buy binoculars especially for the trip as these can be provided on request. You’ll be able to get advice about binoculars, what to buy and the best places to make a purchase. What to wear Wear plenty of layers to keep out the chill including thermal base layers. Please don’t wear jeans as they will wick moisture from low growing vegetation. Bring a waterproof coat, over-trousers and sturdy, waterproof boots, scarf, gloves and a hat. It’s advisable to bring spare gloves and socks.
