Understanding wings and feathers

One of the common problems experienced when watching birds is how to interpret the anatomy of a bird when perched compared to when it is flying. This indoor session looks at the structure of a bird’s wing and how markings and individual feathers are perceived when the wing is folded. You’ll get the opportunity to hold bird wings and to look at some interesting feathers. You’ll also learn how moult and weather affects the appearance of plumage in the field. Price £15 per person including refreshments Transport No transport. Meet at Hollybush Conservation Centre at 19:00. What to expect Indoor sessions take place in the Hollybush TCV classroom. Classes last 2 hours with refreshments at 20:00. Toilets are available at the centre. Note for beginners These sessions are aimed at those new to birdwatching or anyone who would like to increase their understanding of the hobby. What to wear The classroom can get a little chilly at times so dress warmly.
